It has now been revealed to a great extent that the missing son is the closest suspect to be accused for the killings. The son Prashan Kumaraswamy is the son and brother the deceased. He is a pharmacist by profession and had lived in this room on rent for a number of years.
His family members had lived at Derrick Clair Estate in Kotagala. They had come to Colombo on the 12th of this month and had lived in Prashsn’s room. The father, Sangily Kumaraswamy had been the driver of the Superintendent of Derrick Clair estate for 35 years. After retirement the three had come to stay in the room of Prashan in Wellawatta in order to attend to his matters connected with his provident Fund. Sangily Kumaraswamy was supposed to be an innocent person possessing sober habits.
The neighbours had disclosed that after their arrival on a subsequent night they had heard a heated argument and loud noises from inside Prashan’s room. The subject according to those who had heard was a conflict regarding a love affair and a land dispute. Those who confessed to the Police had said that this incident had taken place on the 15th night. There was nothing heard from the house after that.
However people around had seen Prashan locking his room and leaving on the 16th morning.It was also learnt that the suspected son had purchased a number of camphor ball packets from a shop nearby on an earlier day.
It is reported from kotagala where they lived that Prashan had come to the house on the 17th and had come and collected a few things which he had taken in a bag.
It is learnt that Prashan has had a few friends around that area, whom the Police also had questioned. In the meantime a relative and friend of Prashan, Nicholas had wanted to contact Prashan over his mobile for a few days for a business transaction. As there was no response from his phone he had visited his room which was locked. As he did not appear and as an unbearable stench emanated from inside the room his relative has had some suspicion and had informed the Police.
The Police had broken the door lock and had entered into the room. They found three dead bodies placed on a bed and covered with a bed sheet. They have smelt a lot of scent that was sprinkled inside the room. The Police also had discovered a small bottle by the bed side which contained a white liquid.
The deceased were later identified as Sangily Kumaraswamy (58), his wife Puwathi (56) and their daughter Priya (25) who had been a trainee at the estate in Kotagala.
The Police had mage investigations in regard to recorded telephone conversation Prashan had lately taken to speak to his friends and also two females with whom he has had conversations very lately. The Police also had taken in his friends for questioning. The courts have given orders to take all steps in preventing him from leaving the country.
It is suspected that the accused Prashan has gone into hiding somewhere.
