MINISTER BANDULA’S “NEDUN” PROPOSAL

“Sir shall we cut “Nedun’ trees”? - BANDULA

“Don’t ask me anything”- PRESIDENT

For the proposal made by Minister Bandula Gunawardena to President to cut “Nedun” trees at a school premises was flatly refused by the President. The President had smiled sarcastically and reminded him about his Rs 2500/- cost of living issue.

At a recent Cabinet meeting Munister,  Bandula had made a big blunder by bringing a proposal not that conducive at all. His proposal was to cut some expensive ’Nedun’ trees in a remote rural school and to derive a good income by selling them. The President had abused the Minister, Bandula reminding him about the absurd Rs 2500/- cost of living issue. The incident is reported this way....
The Minister drew the attention of the President in this manner during the Cabinet Ministers meeting with this proposal. He was referring to a rural school in the Welimada area. He had said that the wooden rafts on the roof the hall in the school had decayed. He had told it would be very prudent if the resources available in the school premises itself are utilized to find funds to repair the roof of the hall portion.
He had quipped,” Sir there are 14 ‘Nedun’ trees in the school premises. These are very expensive. The best idea and thing to do is to cut and fell this tress and to obtain a substantial sum which could be utilized to replace the decayed rafters of the roof of the hall area. When this was said the President’s face changed dramatically. He said “Once you brought up an unrealistic figure for the cost of living needed for a person’s monthly living as Rs 2500/- per month. You were unable to prove it as realistic and received enough and more criticism and brickbats. Now you suggest selling the resources of a school and placing them under your sarong. Stop this nonsense even now and suggest something practical and propose them”.
All cabinet Ministers present started to laugh and started to watch each other’s faces .As a joke one minister had told ‘There are enough ‘Nedun’ trees in my area, if you want come and cut them and get your income’
