KURUWITA MURDER REVEALED BY A TELEVISION SET

The facts of murder revealed via a TV set:

The son had got the father murdered by promising to pay Rs 50,000/-

In the present day it is rarely heard and seen the children look after and pay gratitude towards the parents unlike in the golden era of yesteryear. The news that is often heard is to a large extent is disastrous. Such an incident is reported where a son had given a contract to two persons to kill his father for a sum of Rs 50.000/-
The murder had really occurred eight years ago, and it was unearthed by accident only last week. One Premaratna 49 years old then was the father of three children who had lived in Wevadeniya area in Kuruwita. He had been killed by strangulation but the suspects were caught and arrested only a few days back.
The story is reported in this manner. His spouse had been working abroad in the month of February in the year 2004.The killing had been made by strangulation with the aid of a curtain rod and a curtain. The children had confessed that they did not suspect anyone and had suspected that a thief who had entered the house when he was all alone may have done it.
Hence as a result Police investigations did not proceed. As there were no proper evidence Police put aside the investigations and the case was automatically postponed. It is learnt that it was a habit for him to beat and harass the children and wife for no reason. Once his eldest son and daughter-in-law had been chased out of the house by him.As the son could not bear his harassment he had drawn a plan to kill him. For this he had deployed the services of an Army soldier and a person doing mason work and had given the contract to kill him for a sum of Rs 50,000/-As an advance he had promised to give his father’s gold chain and the ‘Suraya’ worth Rs 20,000/-.This money was distributed between four involved with Rs 5,000/- each. When the Army soldier was pleading for the balance, the TV set which was in the house was given to him for the balance payment by the son.
The two had earlier agreed and to the contract, had come on one night and knocked at the door. The victim had opened the door and has had a friendly conversation. In the mean time they had locked the door and taken him to a room and locked it too. With the help of a curtain rod and a curtain had strangulated him to death. This was confessed when the army soldier when he was questioned for another incident by the Police.
This army soldier had been stationed in Jaffna, but had deserted his post lately, only in last April. He had assaulted and wounded a person and was arrested by the Police. When his house was searched they found TV set inside his house. The Police had asked as to how he acquired the TV set. Then he confessed and disclised the entire story. All involved were arrested barring one person who is a drug addict is under rehabilitation in a camp.
The son who planned to kill his father had said that he intention to kill his father was because he was staying until his mother returned from abroad to kill her.
