S.B. fixed by the supreme court for changes to be made in the Z-score
The Minister of Higher Education S.B.Dissanayake, the other day appointed a committee to introduce a new system to replace the existing Z- Score method.
As this was a new revelation in the education system of our country, the Minister of Higher Education has no powers to change these existing systems. The powers are only vested with University Grants commission. If he intends making changes he has to obtain the authority of the Attorney General. However the Minister of Higher Education has made an appeal through a motion to the Supreme courts with regard to this intended change.
His appeal made through a motion was rejected by the Chief Justice Shiranee Bandaranayake comprising of two other judges on the bench. The Chief Justice had told the Minister of Higher education that a case is already pending in the Supreme Court with regard to the Z-Score. Hence it is a matter that that should be taken independently by the University Grants Commission.
In an earlier occasion S.B.Dissanayake was sentenced to jail for insulting the Chief Justice.
An earlier letter published in our web site with regard to changing of the Z-score method could be read from HERE:
