MINOR FLOOD SITUATION OWING TO A FEW HOURS HEAVY RAIN

Roads inundated owing to heavy rains:

It is reported, owing to heavy downpours just for a few hours last night had caused the motorists in Colombo and suburban areas a terrible inconvenience owing to flooded roads. The heavy rains were accompanied by lightening. Owing to to this flooding normal life had been terribly hampered.
Along the 120 bus route a large tree had fallen on to the road in the Rattanapitiya area causing severe traffic congestion. Also along the 119 bus route a large advertising hoarding had fallen on to the road causing severe traffic congestion. It is reported even at this time the Havelock Road is under heavy traffic congestion as many try to use this road as an access road to Colombo city.
The roads at Town Hall, Horton Place, Thummulla Amarasekara Mawatha are all under rain water.
The authorities of the Meteorological Department say that this rain would continue in Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and cities like Galle and Matara.
