RUSH FOR GOLD IN PUGODA

Story of emergence of gold deposits:

It is learnt that in the vicinity of the Kelani River in Kumarimulla area in Pugoda, residents of the area have found to know of gold deposits in small quantities. In this context the residents and those in the vicinity villages had been found to be scrambling in search of gold deposits in the ground beneath the kelani river waters.
To enter the spot in this location is through a jungle and it has no proper roadway and hence excess to the river is very difficult. Amidst all these obstacles people in their numbers go to the location and scramble to achieve success in their endeavours. The news about the gold deposits was known earlier to the people who had made similar attempts, but not had met with the success they had anticipated.
From reports revealed it has been confirmed that many persons who were indulged in this exercise had been able to find gold to the value of about Rupees four thousand daily.
The gold hunters had disclosed that this exercise is not at all an easy one. The Gems and Jewelry authority had confirmed that the small pieces of gold that were found were real gold and said to contain 24 carrot gold. A large number of residents have now made this a profession leaving all other work aside. Some have even deployed people to work for a payment.
However the Geological and Mines office had now revealed this as an illegal exercise and had brought it to an end, by stopping it immediately as it is an environmental hazard as the gold hunters use mercury while carrying on this mining exercise.
