PAMUNUWA TEXTILE AREA DEMOLISHED

As all textile shops have been constructed in an unauthorized manner the shops in Pamunuwa area are to be demolished:

The Pamunuwa road area consists mainly of small textile shops and textile traders have been conducting the business of selling small pieces of clothes as well as readymade garnets, catering to the middle class and lower middle class people. It is learnt that all these small textile shops would have to close down abruptly as all shops have been built as unauthorized constructions.

Yesterday the related officials of the urban development Authority had commenced demolishing of these unauthorized structures where many textile dealers had been carrying on business. Many small time clothing entrepreneurs had earned a living by selling small pieces of clothes and ready made garments. This Pamunuwa road area textile business had been inexistence for a number of decades and small time entrepreneurs have been made a livelihood al these days through this business.

Owing to the fact that several numbers in this clothing industry have alarmingly increased over the years, the traffic congestion along High level road too had increased in relation. The Police had brought this matter to the related authorities, the UDA in particular.
