WILL THE FILM KUVENI CHANGE HISTORY?

Yes, I did changes to the historical story of ‘Kuveni’. If anyone is against it anyone is free to scold me:

The film ‘Wijaya Kuveni’ is due to be released next month. There had been several newspaper interviews about the film recently. The producer Sugath Samarakoon says most people say the historical story of ‘Kuveni’ has been changed.
He had said that in this film he had corrected a mistake and if anyone needs clarification or challenge he is willing and he has taken full responsibility to it.
On the 6th of next month the film ‘Kuveni’ is to be released. Roger Seneviratna portrays the lead male role of ‘Wijaya’, while that of ‘Kuveni’ would be portrayed by Dulani Anuruddha. The daughter of Sriyantha-Kusum duo is also portraying a character.

HE HAD QUIPPED THAT THROUGH THIS FILM HE HAD CORRECTED A MISTAKE MADE IN THE HISTORY:

“ Kuveni is one of our relatives. But what is stated in history she is a person is a type of murderer and eats human flesh and is an extraordinary mighty person. Hence until now we have read in the “Mahawansa”, had blamed and cursed her. However we have had a history confined to ‘Maha Nayaka Thera’s’. Through this film I have attempted to do away with what that does not suit and made an attempt to correct history.”

IN THIS INSTANCE THE ALLEGATION THAT YOU DISTORTED THE HISTORY WOULD BE ACCUSED?

“Distortion of history has not at all happened. The highly unwarranted stories were removed, that is all. I could say that a distorted history was made natural and true. I did the production after a lot of experimentation and a good frame of mind. I wish to state that the authorities of the Film Corporation after viewing the film hailed and applauded to unprecedented heights with accolades. Hence allegations that come from lower sources are not a matter that concerns me at all.”

AS THERE IS A DIFFERENCE IN THE HISTORICAL STORY AND THE FILM PRODUCTION WILL IT BECOME A TOPIC OF DISCUSSION FOR CRITICS?

“Whoever who comes out with any type of criticism I am prepared to argue and to answer them. The film ‘Nidhanaya’ was a world renowned film, there too attracted a lot of criticism from many quarters of critics. As the critics blamed for the film ‘Nidhanaya’ blaming me for this film by critics is not a concern to me. It is pertinent to mention that critics keep silent and refrain from commenting on certain films that need to be criticised. Some critics comment only on a good film with a view to make it as unsuccessful venture and production. However I am quite happy about the comments of critics as the film would become more popular”.
