Nekath committee announces that:

 “The auspicious time for lighting the hearth is not a time where dead bodies are lifted.”
“Don’t doubt it”

Recently an article in a Sinhala newspaper pointed out that the auspicious time for lighting the hearth this year which is during the night is a time where dead bodies are lifted and thus if the people light the hearth at that time a bad period will spread all over the country. Therefore, there was a meeting in the Ministry of Cultural Affairs to analyze this issue and it was confirmed that the Sinhala ’Avurudu Nekath’ are hundred percent correct and the people should not doubt about it at all and adhere to it.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs pointed out that the Sinhala ‘Avurudu Nekath’ is casted by a special committee consisting of about 30 experienced and Professional astrologers. Thus, there cannot be any fault and it should not be doubted. Many inexperienced astrologers have been expressing their point of view without shouldering any responsibility or credibility through the media and they do not carry any accountability.
Many people say that there cannot be auspicious hours during the night and they are proved to be false statements. However there had been auspicious hours during 1900. Among the professional, experienced astrologers in the committee are Piyasena Rathuvitana, W.A.C.A Wickramasinghe, Kosala Gunaratne, Indika Epa Seneviratne, Dharma Ranasinghe, S.B Ranasinghe, Rajitha Sisira Kumara and Vipuli Arundathi.

Astrological Explanation
The auspicious time for lighting the hearth on the 13th of April 2012 had been selected as at  07.42 P.M. Professional astrologer Ananda Seneviratne had stated to Lakbima about it.
“It is very wrong to consider this auspicious hour as a time when the dead bodies are lifted. Those things are done during the dawn and not in the night; only the dead bodies of the underworld are lifted in the night and not of the normal people. These words like “dead bodies” and “Hendirikka” are used to frighten the people by those do not have a scientific, astrological base.
After 06hours and 42 minutes from the transition hour, the auspicious time is 07.42 P.M. At that time the Venus rises on Libra. Therefore the best time to light the hearth is the given auspicious time.
To consider this hour as a time when dead bodies are lifted is a lie told without any shame. Sinhala and Hindu New Year are considered as “Surya Mangallaya”. That is an event which gives the priority to the sun. According to Vedha, the sun in the sky becomes fire on earth. Therefore the best hour to light the hearth is the hour of the sun. It is questionable about the shame of the person who would say that the hour of the sun is the time when the dead bodies are lifted.
They say that the Uthrasala Nekath is an evil hour. That doesn’t say to whom it is evil. That is a statement made without any astrological basis. Thus, this statement was made without any profound base.
Another points out that to use an hour of the sun is evil. That is not evil but it is a blessing to use an hour of the sun.
It is very appropriate thing to bring out crucial discussions towards the people. That has been performed well by the media. But the people who have come for discussion have not been professionals.
Astrological calendar was published last year in November. Thus the people had it by the end of November. Astrologers buy it without delay. Had there been a problem with the auspicious hours of the New Year, they had plenty of time to bring it forward for discussion. That has not been done intentionally so that they can create confusion among the public. Now their aim is clear.
Now they are proposing to change the auspicious hours of the New Year at the last moment. It is obvious that it is due to hatred and no other explanation could be given.
