BIG MATCH SPECIAL “COREX-D” CAUGHT AT LIBERTY PLAZA

A pharmacy at Liberty Plaza in Kollupitiya had been raided by the Police for keeping a stock of intoxicating drugs for sale aiming the school students to purchase them during the Big Match season.

Even though Corex-D and Tremodol are not banned drugs, according to the regulations of the Ministry of Health they cannot be sold without a doctor’s prescription. These drugs which are taken as alternatives for common cold and cough were famous among the school students as intoxicating drugs and thus the regulations were imposed by the Health officers to the pharmacies to stop them from been sold without a doctor’s prescription.
The stock of drugs which was for sale for students at a pharmacy housed at the Liberty Plaza shopping complex was raided by the authorities of State Pharmaceutical Corporation. The pharmacy owners have ordered them especially targeting the students who are interested in its consumption, as it gives the effect of liquor to revel at the Big Matches. The pharmacy owners have taken steps to sell them without any supervision sans prescriptions. Thus, the rumour had spread among the school students and they have flocked in their numbers asking for Corex-’D’
The State Pharmaceutical Corporation shows that there is no need for the pharmacies to bring Corex-D in such large stocks and selling them without proper prescriptions needed which could be an offence that needs to be punished.
The State Pharmaceutical Corporation had stated that this raiding was done on a complaint received from the public.
