ABORTIONS TO BE LEGALISED IN SRI LANKA?

Sri Lanka Government proposes to amend laws pertaining to abortions:

According to current legal procedures in Sri Lanka abortions are illegal. Aborting resembles like killing a little baby. An abortion could be done in Sri Lanka legally only if a professional Gynecologist doctor recommends the abortion considering the health of the mother or the baby. Otherwise it is against the law to do abortions in Sri Lanka hospitals.
However owing to various reasons abortions have to be done, but illegally, not in hospitals. These are done in private clinics by incompetent personnel to make money. Those who are indulging in this profession have little or no knowledge in gynecology.
It had been reported that several such illegal abortion clinics have been raided and people involved apprehended. It is also reported that during such illegal operations many mother to be women had died. This number has been increasing all the time.
However many mothers owing to really valid reasons might require to abort the conceived fetus. It has now become a question as to where to draw the line and fix a limit.
Taking all what had been mentioned by Minister Tissa Karaliyadde into serious consideration it has been proposed by him to make these strict laws more linear. This is purely to help and protect unmarried couples and those who have conceived through prostitution. In this context abortion laws are to be amended by bringing in new legislation to be passed in Parliament.
