SRI LANKA’S “MAJOR MISTAKE” WAS THE SINHALA ONLY ‘ACT”

The biggest mistake made by Sri Lanka was making “SINHALA” medium our official language—CHANDRIKA

Former President of Sri Lanka Chandrika Banadaranaike, last Tuesday was invited for a lecture at the Harward University of America.  During her oration she disclosed that the ‘Major Mistake’ made in the annals of our Politics was the blunder made by her Father late S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike, during his regime in the year 1956 by making Sinhala language as the official language of the country.
This decision paved the way for v-numerous differences among the other communities, particularly of the Tamil population which curbed development activities and was also the prime root cause of communal conflicts which began to aggravate. This also gave rise to the beginning of the ethnic conflicts and the civil war. This was revealed by her when invited to deliver a lecture at the centre for government and international studies. (CGIS).
She confessed that professional and intellectuals from all communities who have the ability should be selected to top positions irrespective of any discrimination which caused some pressure amongst the Tamil community.
After her lecture was over a American Student questioned her “What American students learn from Sri Lankans history of Political conflicts?.The reply she gave was “They can learn how a paradise was lost?
