LANKAN SAARC MONUMENT DOUSED WITH CRUDE OIL

The gift given by the President attacked by black crude oil

When President Mahinda Rajapaksa visited the Maldives ‘ADDU”city to attend to the Saarc Summit a gift (a monument of a Lion) was sent earlier as a remembrance which is the custom of all other Saarc attending countries as well. Pakistan had taken a monument of Mohammad Ali Jeena.
Although the Government was willing to accept this gift the anti Islamic community had objected and protested to it. That revealed that this type of monument goes not go along with the principles of their religion and showed dissent towards it.

This protest was made hugely by the PPM Socialist party, but the Maldives government did not show concern. During this type of protests the statue gifted by Pakistan had to be removed. The Police was able to find the statue and it was later re-erected. The other major incident is that some protestors had doused the Lion statue gifted by Sri Lanka with black crude oil making the statue distorted. Subsequently the PPM Socialist party supporters had told to the media that Maldives do not require such a monument of a Lion. About accepting this gift the PPM Socialist party supporters would be speaking to the Police and the Custom officials in regard to its legal aspect. A member of the PPM Socialist party had disclosed to the “Minivan news” newspaper that erecting this statue is against the ethics of Maldives customs, Police, Religious and theft laws and hence action should be taken and it should be destroyed.
