JEENA’S ASSISTANTS RELEASED ON BAIL

Working in a brothel house within the prescribed law is not an offence-Magistrate gives verdict:
All Prostitutes of Jeena Madam freed:

It was in last December that the Jeena’s luxury brothel house at kollupitiya was raided. At the time there were five prostitutes, all of whom were arrested. It was revealed in courts that working as prostitutes within a brothel house cannot be regarded as an offence. Hence all were released from custody.
According to Sri Lankan law, Ordinance No 2 (A) Act pertaining to running a brothel house, handling its administration or assisting it, such an occurrence only could be convicted but not the prostitutes in the brothel house. Hence the prostitutes who were in the brothel house could not be found guilty.
Taking this into consideration all the prostitutes who were within the brothel house at the time of the raid at the luxury Liberty Plaza Apartment was all released. The order was delivered by the Magistrate of the Fort Magistrate courts Miss Lanka Jayaratna. However the main suspect in this case Rosemary Judy Perera better known as Jeena Madam was further remanded.

The luxury brothel house was located in the 7-8 floors at the Liberty Plaza Apartments having luxurious facilities. It had been running profitably for nearly 20 years. During these years it had been well patronised by reputed businessman, popular well known personalities and professionals. The charges had ranged from Rs 10,000/- upwards. It is learnt that one prostitute had earned around Rs 75,000/ per day. 10% of the earnings had to given to Madam Jeena. In the Liberty Plaza building Jeena Madam had paid rent for about 10 apartments and employed about 10 prostitutes. She had paid rent around Rs 30 lakhs. For regular customers were given priority treatment like food, accommodation and liquor. There were wealthy customers who offered packages with all facilities. For a month which ranged from Rs 5/10/15 lakhs.
At the time of the raid there had been 5 prostitutes, two of which were foreigners, Uzbekistan nationals. After the raid Jeena Madam had evaded arrest and later had surrendered to the Police. After the verdict was given all suspects were released but Jeena Madam was further remanded.
