It was party time for viewers of new Southern Express Highway.Last week for two days the new Express Southern Highway was opened freely for the general public to view it along the route they wished. For this occasion many people dwelling on the sides of the highway and several others from many parts of the country made use of this opportunity afforded. For some of it was like an excursion to enjoy.
The two days permission was made was on the 19th and 20th of this month for this purpose. This opportunity was afforded to the public devoid of any security. Some made maximum opportunity to make use of this chance by coming
organised with liquor and eatables, lunch etc., with a view of having parties on the highway. Some had thrown away bottles and remnants of eatables and waste on the highway. This was revealed by the workers who came on the following day for cleaning work. They had even sprinkled broken pieces of glasses of bottles on the highway perhaps after drinks. This exercise proved to be a cumbersome for the cleaning people deployed. To bring the newly opened highway back to normal it had taken some time and some effort had to be made.The Southern Express Highway is to be opened at Karandeniya on the 27th of November by the President as the Chief Guest.

ReplyDeleteSri Lanka is still in the stone ages. Take time and look at pictures of Sri Lanka in 1900's. Google to pictures of ancient Sri Lanka. We were half naked savages. I do not understand where our historians get this notion of 2500 year of civilization Bullcrap. Our politicians are a good example of what we really are. "History is a Yardstick to who we are?".

So when this facilty built at three times the cost of what it could have cost to build it in the West - despite our labour costs being one tenth of that of the West and then when we let our monkeys use this very expensive facilty free for a day or two, this is what we can expect.
Pooh! for the freedom of the press, media and for liberal thoughts and ideology. We are just not ready to come down the trees yet. Are we?

ReplyDeleteI'm a person who travels every weekend Colombo to Baddegama. I know atmosphere there beside Southern Express highway very well. Those photograph are taken from some other roads not in Southern Express highway. I'm 100% Sure. Thank you
