“Srim Lanka” makes Visa on line from Sri Lanka puzzling
Owing to a new system of applying visas via the internet introduced last week by the Sri Lankan Government has caused laughter among foreigners as they have been deprived of the opportunity of this online facility owing to language issues of large magnitude.
The discrepancies had caused a lot of inconvenience for the immigration and emigration authorities although several defects identified some time ago had not been rectified. Some defects identified in this web site are as follows:
1 In the logo of the immigration and emigration, instead of Sri Lanka, they had etched “Smri Lanka”.
2 It had been mentioned that in addition to English, applications could be made in Spanish, German, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic and Hindu and Russian languages. But when the button related to languages were clicked only Spanish language appeared and in that too only an introduction had been displayed on the screen.
3 In the Chinese language it was spelt as Chinees.
4. In the case Japanese language it appears only as Japanees.
5. The Hindi version was not at all operative.
6. It was the same for the Arabic language.
Although the website was officially launched on the 30th, it was revealed yesterday the 1st that this system is to be postponed to January 2012 i.e. beginning of next year. Although the system is not in operation the authorities had not requested to stop forwarding the visa applications to the foreigners via this web site.
