First Suspected Apprehended

This afternoon the first suspect in the Bharatha-Duminda clash was arrested along with a number of fire arms he had in his possession. The police were able to capture 12 pistols, 2 revolvers and 2 T56 rifles from his possession. This was revealed by the senior Police Media spokesman Macksi Proctor. It is also learnt that altogether 37 persons to date had been interrogated by the Police.

Incident taken up, for hearing in courts
Bharatha had died of multiple gunshot injuries.
The rest had died of direct shooting-Judiciary Medical Report.


1.20 p.m.
According to an investigation report prepared by the Wellampitiya Police, a hearing on the Bharatha- Duminda clash was heard in courts today. Bharatha and Duminda supporters have had a face to face argument and subsequently had ended up in a clash between the two factions. According to the Judiciary Medical officer Dr Ravindra Fernando, Bharatha had died of gunshot injuries from several weapons. It was his view that the murderer could not be identified as shooting was done by several armed men.
Nevertheless another Judiciary Medical Officer’s report would also be taken along with any other evidence when the case would be heard again on the 20th of this month.
At the request of the wife of Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra the approval to cremate the body at Kolonnawa Umagiliya playground on the 12th was given by courts.
