Duminda-Bharatha incident
Why haven’t Police arrested at least one?
BBC questions Police Media Spokesman
Although the entire Sri Lanka is talking about the killing of former M.P Bharatha Lakshman and this incident had taken place in front of the Police personnel and many onlookers it is very strange that nobody has been yet taken into custody, although CID had questioned only 21 persons in this regard.
There had been 4 murders and the incident had occurred 3 days ago it is very pity that Police has taken a negative attitude. This was questioned yesterday, the 9th by the BBC World Service ‘Sandesaya’ programme from the Police Media Spokesman Macksi Proctor. The questions asked and the answers given are as follows:
BBC: How many were arrested?
Police: No one as yet
BBC: from your investigations have you found any suspects?
Police: That could be told only once the investigations are completed.
BBC: When in broad daylight in the presence of Police Officers when such killings take place people lose faith in the Police.
Police: This was an unfortunate incident. However the correct stand would be revealed as in the cases at Katunayake, Angulana and Dompe incidents once the investigations are completed.
BBC: Dompe, Angulana incidents cannot be compared with this?
Police: These investigations too would be completed in an impartial manner.
BBC: The Opposition tells that these investigations are having political influence?
Police: There is no such influence. Investigations would be completed properly.
