THE MYSTERY OF MAHAOYA POLICE MURDERS

The mysterious side of the stories, shooting of ASP, committing suicide, also by self shooting of the Chief Inspector

The shooting of the Mahaoya, Assistant Superintendent of Police and committing suicide by shooting himself by the Chief Inspector remains still a puzzling story?
The Chief Inspector of Police is a 54 year old Police Officer, on the verge of retirement, is learnt reliably as a person who never loses his temper to such levels had shot his Senior officer, 44 years old very much younger to him, ASP by rank after a heated argument, when only both of them had been isolated at the scene inside a room.
The killing by shooting the ASP while in unbearable anger, 4-5 times on the face and almost immediately had shot himself at an area below his mouth. The gun shots had penetrated into his head area causing his death.
The reason for this instant anger is yet to be revealed and remains to be a mystery which is now been extensively investigated. It is suspected that this may have been owing to an incident in a village in Ratnapura. On the day of the incident the Chief Inspectors duty was to report to the ASP with regard to the absence from duty of a few Police Officers. It is learnt that two Police constables under the administration of the Chief Inspector had not reported for duty for a period of two weeks.
The Chief Inspector has had discussions on this matter with his superior, the ASP. During the discussion the Chief Inspector had uttered that “all four of them were people who hailed from Ratnapura”. After the Police constables left the ASP and the Chief Inspector had gone into a room and have had a heated argument. Those who heard the tone of the heated argument were unable to gather or grasp of any clue as to the topic of the argument. It is suspected that the ASP may have told that as although he was also from Ratnapura he will not be able to make the punishment meted out to make lenient at all.

This may have caused the Chief Inspector to become very angry which he could not suppress. It is also suspected that the enormous anger may have been owing to some concealed reasons in their personal lives? It may have even been owing to a family conflict that existed? These may be perhaps some other reasons for the Chief Inspector to get such an unbearable anger.

Another reason could have been that the ASP was preventing the underworld elements from performing their underworld activities and had enemies. Sri Lanka’s famous underworld criminals as Olcott, Neluwe Priyantha, Anamalu Imtiaz and Katane Roshan were all cordoned and caught by the ASP. It is learnt that the ASP had sought for a transfer to Ampara after killing of the underworld criminal Katane Roshan as was in fear that his colleague gangsters would take revenge from him.

It is suspected that the killing of the ASP by the Chief Inspector may have been due to conflicts that existed because of the underworld thugs. However ASP Sisira Muruththetuwegama who is a resident of Kadawatha, a father of two children had phoned his wife and spoken for over 40 minutes on the previous day, which was very unusual and had told her to look after the children, something he had never uttered earlier.

The Chief Inspector a resident of Ratnapura is a father of three children had been responsible for deserting two families and left the world. The families that were ruined was due to the anger the Chief Inspector may not have been able to suppress or due to some other concealed reason, only time would reveal the cause.
