APAREKKE THERA’S CHILD BIKKHU ABUSE CASE

The Hela Urumaya Party's former Member of Parliament Venerable APAREKKE PUNNYANANDA THERA’S CHILD BIKKHU ABUSE.

“If you need alms you have to come to me was the saying of the Ven. Aparekke Punnyananda Thera’s threat given to the Child Bikkhus between the ages of 8-10 years. This case for alleged Child abuse was taken up against the former Parliamentarian Thera for hearing today.
Three of the Child Bikkhus who were severely abused was ordered to be produced before the Child Protection Authority for interrogation, by the Colombo Chief Magistrate. These 3 child Bikkhus were later produced before the Child Probation officers on the orders of the Colombo Additional Magistrate. The accused had been produced before the Magistrate Courts after strong protests were made by these Bikkhus, as they had confessed that they were forced to come to the cottage of the accused if they were to receive ’alms’. This was revealed by the Police from the information given by the child Bikkhus.
When the case was taken up earlier Ven.Aparekke Thera had been warned not to have any connection with the student Bikkhus. The case is again scheduled to be taken up for hearing on the 29th of this month.
