EIGHT POLICE PERSONNEL ALONG WITH THE OIC MULLERIYAWA POLICE STATION INTERDICTED FOR ASSAUTING MEDIA PERSONNEL AND SOME OTHERS
Nilupa Sanjaya Liyanage, a media personnel attached to the ‘NETH’ FM and a few others had been assaulted by Police officers attached to the Mulleriyawa Police Station. Owing to this incident 8 police officers including the OIC have been interdicted on the orders of the Defence Secretary. The incident that had led to this incident is for riding on a motor cycle by the pillion rider without a helmet. The Police had followed Nilupa to his residence at Angoda where a party had been in progress.
As the Policemen were not allowed to enter Nilupa’s house, they had gone back and come along with a group of Police officers and forcibly entered his house and taken him and along with him a few others and were assaulted severely and had to be hospitalised at the National Hospital in Colombo for treatment to the injuries.
After coming to know that one of the injured was a media personnel attached to the ‘NETH’ FM,the OIC with several others had visited the hospital to apologise. On the following day (yesterday) when the incident had been known to the Media Secretary,he had probed into the incident and had ordered to interdict 8 police officers including the OIC of the Mulleriyawa Police station.
It was made known to the Gossip Lanka News that instant action was taken by the Media Secretary as Nilupa was a media personnel. The question is what action would have been taken if it happened to a layman. It is very doubtful about the action that would have been taken. This was disclosed by Nilupa by the audio below:
