Merchants Market Consumer Products in Floating Boats
The floating market concept is new to Sri Lanka. In Thailand this floating market system prevails to attract tourists as well. The commodities that are marketed are kept in floating boats. The customers also could go in boats and purchase their needs. The customers who need to purchase could also do so by standing by the side of a lake under a bridge.
The Deputy Minister of consumer development, Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena had added that this system is to be implemented as an alternative for the displaced payment hawkers to carry on their business. Permission is being sought to commence this new system of floating markets. When this was proposed in parliament, Member of Parliament Anura Kumara Dissanayaake added that to purchase consumer items a new boat system has to commence. The Deputy Minister added that it would be implemented in a lake under a bridge.
