PRESIDENT HAS DECIDED TO PARTICIPATE IN A SIl CAMPAIGN ON VESAK FULL MOON DAY

The Vesak full moon day is due to fall on next Tuesday the 17th.This Vesak full moon day is very exclusive as it marks and celebrates the 2600th Sri Sambuddhatva Jayanthi of Lord Buddha.
On normal monthly Poya days it had been a continuous practice to hold a ‘Dharmadeshanawa’ at Temple Trees which was telecast live on Television. For the forthcoming Vesak day the usual pattern may change. It is reliably learnt that his Excellency the President has taken a stern decision to participate in a Sil campaign.
This had been revealed by him after completion of his responsibilities at a cabinet meeting .For this occasion he had been preparing himself by refraining in consuming fish and meat. He had made an open invitation to other cabinet ministers also to join him. Then the question arose from non Buddhist cabinet ministers as to what would be their stand.
The President had agreed and said, of course yes, there are many such cabinet ministers in the likes of M/s Faucy. They could achieve merit by providing a good ‘Dane’, which was quipped by the President with a sense of good humour.
