MIGETTUWATTE THERA’S KASSIPPU CASE

“The Lawyer defending the case quips that is ‘KASSIPPU’ conspiracy:

If Lord Buddha lived.........”

MAGISTRATE---HA HA do not drag the name of Lord Buddha to this case:

Ven.Migettuwatte Sumitta thera was arrested last Sunday accusing for aiding the underworld by supplying with weapons and also protecting them. The Thera’s’s one lawyer Waruna Chandranath Weerasuriya speaking in defence had told the Magistrate that this had been a purposely manipulated ‘coup’ to bring disrepute to the Sanga Nayake.Ven Miggetuwatte Sumitta thera.
“According to the Act no 22 of 1992 regarding possession of weapons was the reason why the thera was taken into custody. However no weapons were produced as ‘productions’ to prove that he possessed weapons. Arresting without any productions is against the law.
“This is definitely a ‘conspiracy’ done by some Kassippu dealers who conduct their business at premises close to the temple, the Vidya Pradeepa Pirivena, where thera is the Principal. Because of these Kassippu dealers it had been a headache for the thera for quite some time. There had been several conflicts the thera has had with the kassippu dealers, and the thera is certain this would have been a plan drawn out by the Kassippu dealers. All acts behind the problems confronted, according to the thera had been because of these kassippu dealers.
They have destroyed the belongings of the temple to some extent. The president was intending to be present at opening ceremony to build a ‘Chaithiya’ to the temple the following month. When this was planned to happen they had made the damages to the temple.
The thera was taken into custody as a suspect on Sunday morning and produced before courts on Monday on which day itself he was ordered to be remanded. Almost all the media had published instantaneously about this incident without any delay.
The thera had been the author of 13 books in order to educate the layman about Buddhism and is a monk who possesses a degree. It was told that he is not a thera who will indulge in low activities as a learned monk. Owing to this incident the people in the entire Bandarigoda area had been restless and disturbed. What Lord Buddha preached was remembered. There is matter related to differences in ‘castes’ also has surfaced. My Lord if the Lord Buddha had lived........................”
The Magistrate quipped....’HA HA do not drag lord Buddha in connecting this conflict.’
The other lawyer Narada Mendis said “was that only one suspect out of eight involved in the case has had connections with the temple. However there are no allegations against about arms/weapons. This had been done to fulfil someone’s desire with such a conspiracy.”
It was instructed that the thera cannot be allowed bail and the case was postponed up to the 24th instant and until the thera had to be in remand. It is reported that the people of Bentota area had staged a protest against the thera.
Also it reported that orders have been received by the Mhahanayke  of his Buddhist chapter to remove all privileges granted to the thera.
