The Convict of the Royal Park murder case has been sentenced to death
26 year old Shamantha Jude Anthony Jayamaha who killed a Swiss girl named Ivon Johanson at Royal Park Apartments in Rajagiriya, with whom he had been having a relationship had been sentenced to death by the Court of Appeal.
High court had ordered rigorous imprisonment for 12 years for Jude Anthony in 2006. Yet, today’s order by the Court of Appeal made it none effect. Therefore, the Convict who was to be free within another 5 years had been sentenced to death.
Shamantha Jude Anthony Jayamaha who is said to be born into a rich family had been in a relationship with both sisters Ivon and Caroline. They had been born to a Sri Lankan woman married to a Swiss garment owner named Roger Johansson. During a quarrel between the two, Ivon had been pushed from upstairs stairway.
Even though, Jude Anthony had been arrested as a suspect for Ivon Johansson’s death, he had tried to be freed by using his immense powers and money. Finally, he had been sentenced to death for 12 years by the High Courts. Attorney General who was not satisfied with it had forwarded it to Court of Appeal.
Court of appeal had decided that there is enough evidence to prove him guilty. Therefore, the two judges, Ranjith Silva and Nalin Perera had made this decision before the Court of Appeal.
