TENSE SITUATION AT KAHAWATTA

Kahawatta villages were tensed as the killers were not brought to book by the Police for so long.

There was a severe protest by the people of kahawatta last afternoon by burning tyres on the streets and later they had burnt the house of a Pradeshiya Sabha Member and also the house of his brother.
The reason for villages to act in this manner was because the Police had been lethargic in bringing to book the culprits and punishing them accordingly. It is learnt that the suspects are powerful politicians and members of UPFA Pradeshiya Sabha. It is now known that the suspect a member of the Pradeshiya Sabha had been taken in by the Police for questioning.
At Kahawatta a few months back a spate of elderly women were killed and the people were living in fear and the Kahawatta Police couldn’t on their own find out who were the killers were. They needed the assistance of the Army personnel, STF to find the killers.
On February 1st it was reported that Nayana Nilmini aged 52 and her daughter 18 year old school girl had both been stabbed to death. The bogy of the Mother was found inside the house and that of the daughter in the vicinity of the house near a bush who also had stab injuries. All blood stains had been washed to avoid any suspicion that the innocent girl had been raped thereafter. A medical report in this connection has been called by the police.
The Father and Son of this unfortunate family had been working in Colombo and were totally unaware of these murders until they received information.
The killers had not left any finger prints to avoid post murder investigations. The villages had acted in this manner as they have not been able to control their emotions any longer in connection with this double murder mainly because the Police were delaying investigations.
