SARANA SUSPENDED FOR WATER BOTTLE CASE

Banned for one week from attending Parliamentary sessions for having proved accused for water bottle case

The speaker of the Parliament has banned Sarana Gunawardena for attending Parliamentary sessions for a period of one week after been proved as accused in the water bottle throwing incident revealed via the blocked video cameras during the President’s budget speech 2011.
It was revealed while the budget speech was on a water bottle had been hurled at the Opposition leader Ranil Wickremasinghe by Sarana Gunwardema a Government M.P. from Gampaha District. This bottle of water had narrowly missed the President, However it is learnt that some water in the bottle had even to some extent drenched the President and had landed near Opposition Leaders feet. It was said by the President during his speech that water bottles had been hurled from the gallery. He had ordered the Police to investigate.
But from the video that was not shown earlier it confirmed that the bottle of water was hurled by the Government M.P. from Gampaha District Sarana Gunawardena. However in contrast many thought that the water bottle was hurled from the Opposition section.
A meeting was held subsequently and the Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe confirmed that no members from the opposition brought water bottles.This were confirmed by those who covered the budget speech via videos. From the videos it was confirmed that the culprit was a M.P from the Government side Sarana Gunawardena. At a meeting held subsequently M.P. Sarana Gunawardena who was found guilty. He was barred as a punishment from attending Parliamentary sessions for a period of one week.
