Husband fled after killing his pregnant wife

A tragic incident is reported from the Puttalam District, where a four-and-a-half-month pregnant mother was beaten and killed by her husband, as an unfortunate result of a family dispute escalating.

This crime has occurred in the Saliyawewa, Kumbukkalla (also known as Kumbukwewa) area, which belongs to the Karuwalagaswewa Divisional Secretariat. Police suspect that the husband committed this murder by assaulting his wife after a marital dispute that arose inside the house yesterday (03) evening escalated.

The person who unfortunately lost her life in this manner is a 32-year-old resident of the same area.

Following a complaint received regarding the incident, Saliyawewa Police commenced investigations yesterday itself. Officers from the Puttalam Criminal Investigation Division conducted investigations at the crime scene last night, and the acting Magistrate of Puttalam, Waseem Raja, also conducted the relevant on-site magisterial inquiry.

The body of the murdered pregnant mother is currently deposited in the mortuary of Puttalam Base Hospital, and the post-mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted today.

Police investigations have so far revealed that the suspect husband fled the area after murdering his wife. Saliyawewa Police have launched further investigations and a special operation to locate and arrest the absconding suspect.
