The Sri Lanka Police has revealed that a video widely circulated on social media, claiming that a person who supported the march from Kandy to Colombo, demanding the release of Venerable Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thero, who is currently imprisoned, was assaulted, is completely false. The video, released on social media by Venerable Thiththagalle Anandasiri Thero, showed that his supporter had been assaulted with a helmet by some individuals.

Addressing television channels and pointing to the person, Thiththagalle Thero had said this:

"Look at the brutality of the 'Malimawa' (JVP/NPP). This elder brother who helps us was brutally beaten with a helmet and left. ... The bike number, Mr. President... We walked with kindness, compassion, mercy, and sympathy... Gnanasara Thero was released, right? Look at the nature of the 'Panawaththa' (JVP/NPP) thugs. Look at the blood on this elder brother. Now this... black vehicle... When this vehicle came, what did they do to you, brother?"

They came to block the road and hit me when I was going straight.

Ah... they blocked the road and hit me. Now, Mr. President, that's what the JVP did during their time. Are they trying to scare people again by doing those barbaric acts? This elder brother... Brother... Young man, bring a vehicle, apply some medicine. Blood... we can't let the blood flow.

Call 119 now. Don't do things like this. Don't do this to people if there's anything. Now, because you were forgiven after thirty years, people didn't just vote, they forgave. As soon as they came to power with this... Now, the President must immediately look into what happened to this elder brother. You were hit from behind with a helmet.

This is all blood. This is broken... Look at these steering wheels... right? Police... This... Inspector General of Police, Inspector General of Police, what is this you are doing? Even with police protection, they come and hit people and leave. With police protection, people cannot be hit like this. Call them quickly. Put it on this elder brother. That's how it is, barbarians are like that. Completely, barbarians are like that."

However, preliminary investigations conducted by the Werragula Police have revealed the true story behind this incident. According to the police, this incident occurred yesterday (14th) in front of the Veediyawatta Devalaya in Yakkala. The clash erupted due to an argument escalating between a person traveling in a lorry for a personal need and a motorcyclist, stemming from a traffic congestion. It has been confirmed that the motorcyclist assaulted the person in the lorry with a helmet.

The police have taken a statement from the person who was traveling in the lorry and sustained injuries from this assault, currently receiving treatment at Wathupitiwala Hospital. He clearly stated that he has no connection to the said march and that this was merely an assault by the motorcyclist due to a traffic dispute. It is also mentioned that the other party involved in the clash, the motorcyclist, is currently receiving treatment for injuries at Gampaha Hospital.

Accordingly, the police have focused serious attention on the attempt to create public unrest through social media by exploiting a private traffic dispute on the road and a person's injuries, portraying it as an assault on one of their supporters. The Werragula Police emphasize that they will report the facts to the court regarding this matter and take strict legal action. The police further request the public to act with great understanding regarding video clips that disseminate such false and unconfirmed information in a manner that causes public disturbance.
