A news report from Katunayake Airport states that a Sri Lankan domestic worker suddenly gave birth to a child inside a Jazeera flight that was flying from Kuwait to Sri Lanka. This unusual experience was faced by a thirty-year-old woman residing in the Trincomalee area, early yesterday (19) morning.
She had gone to Kuwait for domestic work about two years ago, specifically in 2024, and faced this incident while returning to her homeland after completing her service period. Normally, pregnant mothers close to childbirth are not allowed to travel by air, and reports indicate that she was wearing tight "denim" trousers to conceal her pregnancy from airline officials.
While the Al Jazeera flight JN-551, which departed from Kuwait City Airport, was approaching Sri Lanka, she experienced labor pains inside the aircraft. However, with the prompt assistance of the flight attendants, she was able to give birth to a baby boy without any complications. The pilot, immediately understanding the situation, informed the Katunayake Airport authorities, and as a result, an ambulance with doctors and nurses was called and kept ready near the aircraft even before it landed.
After the aircraft landed at Katunayake Airport at 02:52 AM yesterday, the mother and the newborn baby boy were promptly transferred to the Negombo General Hospital. Further reports indicate that both the mother and the child, who arrived by air carrying a new life, are currently in good health.
