Thashmila, the Sri Lankan contestant, is selected ahead of the 'Mrs. Universe' competition, which will be held in Colombo on the 18th.

Tashmila Peiris was crowned Mrs. Universe Sri Lanka on the night of Monday, October 5th. This took place at the grand finale of Mrs. Universe Sri Lanka 2026, held at the Blue Elephant Ballroom of the Hilton Colombo.

With this victory, she gets the opportunity to represent the island at the world competition, which will be held in Sri Lanka starting on the 18th of this month. As contestant number 07, carrying a bouquet of red roses and dressed in a sparkling pink gown, she also won the Body Beauty sub-award on the same night, in addition to the main crown.

Mrs. Universe is a competition organized for married, divorced, or widowed women aged between 18 and 55, headquartered in Sofia, Bulgaria. Women participating in this must have a family and a profession, and it is mandatory to be involved with some social cause. This is not the Miss Universe or Mrs. World competition, and when Miss Universe filed a lawsuit in 2010 regarding the use of the word 'Universe,' Mrs. Universe argued that it is a common word and that the two competitions do not conflict with each other.

Mr. Malith Ranasinghe, Chairman of MR Entertainment, serves as the National Director for Mrs. Universe Sri Lanka. The 49th Mrs. Universe World Finals will be held in Sri Lanka this time, marking the first occasion that the final stage of this competition has been awarded to Sri Lanka. Although the 2026 competition was initially planned to be held in Botswana, Colombo was chosen after its cancellation.

Over a hundred married beauty queens from around the world (approximately 120 maximum) are expected to arrive in Colombo before 3:00 PM on October 18th, and the sash ceremony will be held that evening. The preliminary round and the national costume round of the competition will take place on October 23rd, and the grand finale is scheduled to be held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo. The official program also includes a reception, a press conference, cultural exchange, visits to tourist and heritage sites, as well as charity events.

The current Mrs. Universe is Sherry Singh from India, who won the 48th competition in 2025. Recent world winners include Natalia Daroshka from Belarus (2024), Meranie Gadianna Rahman from the USA (2023), Elena Maximova from Russia (2022), and Anna Siradze from Georgia (2021). The challenge has now been passed to Tashmila Peiris to bring the world crown to Sri Lanka on home soil.
