Anusha Lakmali, also known as 'Achini', the main suspect in the brutal murder of Aruna Vidanagamage, alias 'Kajja', and his two young children, was brought back to the country this morning (27) from Dubai, under strict security. This follows her arrest by Dubai security forces based on an Interpol Red Notice.
The night of February 18, 2025, was stained with blood by this triple murder. This attack, targeting Aruna Vidanagamage, known by the alias 'Meegasara Kajja', not only claimed his life but also tragically took the lives of his 6-year-old daughter and 9-year-old son who were with him at the time.
Police investigations have revealed that this woman, Anusha Lakmali, 34, a resident of Katuwana, Middeniya, had a close relationship with 'Kajja', the victim. According to police findings, the initial groundwork for this crime was laid under the instructions of the organized criminal 'Backhoe Saman', who is currently abroad. Accordingly, it was this suspect who strategically lured 'Kajja' and his two children to the relevant restaurant for a meal. It has been further revealed that she also sent the last phone call and text message to 'Kajja' just moments before the shooting and murder occurred.
After this incident, the suspect fled abroad and was in hiding. The Sri Lanka Police sought the assistance of Interpol to apprehend her. A team of special police officers had departed for Dubai to bring her back to the country, where she had been arrested and imprisoned by the local security forces. Accordingly, she was brought to Katunayake Airport this morning at around 5:20 AM on SriLankan Airlines flight UL-226.
A special team of Criminal Investigation Department officers at the airport recorded initial statements from the suspect. Subsequently, she was taken under strict security to the Criminal Investigation Department headquarters in Colombo for further investigations related to the triple murder.
