How did Kassapa Thero's 'slipping' become a police assault?

The Sri Lanka Police states that a number of false rumors are currently circulating on social media, unsettling the public, based on the incident where Balangoda Kassapa Thero was hospitalized after slipping and falling in Viharamahadevi Park in Colombo.

Police Media Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police F. U. Wuttler stated that Thero Kassapa was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital after slipping in the park. However, he confirmed that Thero has already been discharged from the hospital after receiving the necessary treatment.

The police have observed that some individuals are deliberately spreading false information through social media, provoking the public by giving a different interpretation to this incident, which was merely an accident, portraying it as an assault. However, the Police Media Spokesperson strongly emphasized that no assault of any kind related to this incident has been reported so far.

Officially commenting on the incident, the Assistant Superintendent of Police also stated: "Balangoda Kassapa Thero was admitted to the National Hospital after slipping and falling in Viharamahadevi Park. After being admitted to the hospital, he received treatment and has now been discharged. We have observed that some individuals, especially through social media, are spreading false information based on this incident, provoking the public and creating unrest. No assault related to this incident has been reported so far."

Accordingly, the Sri Lanka Police further warns that legal action will be strictly enforced against individuals who spread such false propaganda by distorting the true incident.
