Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has filed a motion in court requesting the lifting of the travel ban imposed on him in connection with the investigations into the Easter Sunday suicide terrorist attack.
Lawyers appearing on behalf of the former President made this request by submitting the motion to Fort Magistrate Prasanna Amarasekara.
The lawyers argued in court for the lifting of the travel ban imposed on their client, citing the need for medical treatment. The motion further states that the former President needs to travel to Singapore for post-operative care related to a heart surgery scheduled to be performed at a hospital in Singapore.
Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa's foreign travel was restricted about four months ago. This travel ban was imposed based on a request made by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to the Fort Magistrate, stemming from an ongoing investigation related to the Easter attack.
