At least 24 civilians, including four young children, have been killed in a series of massive Russian drone and missile attacks on Ukraine on the day of Russian President Vladimir Putin's 74th birthday. These attacks occurred during the night in several regions, including the capital Kyiv, and dozens more people were injured.
The most devastating incident in this series of attacks was reported from the city of Pryluky in the Chernihiv region. There, a five-story residential building was completely destroyed, which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called a "birthday gift" given to Putin by the Russian army. The attack on this building killed 18 people, including three one-year-old children and an eight-year-old child.
However, rescue workers managed to save another child trapped in the rubble.
In addition, deaths have been reported from three other Ukrainian cities. Two people died due to a fire caused by an attack on a garage complex in the Darnytskyi district of the capital Kyiv, and a Russian missile that fell near homes in the city without exploding was seen being defused by a bomb disposal expert. Furthermore, attacks in the Kremenchuk area of the Poltava region killed two people and injured seven others. Governor Vitaliy Dyakievnych stated that the enemy targets sleeping children and that next time it could be their address. President Zelensky urged world leaders to exert strong pressure on Russia against these terrorist attacks targeting civilians and children, and to provide further defense packages to Ukraine.
