
A family dispute at a house in Gracelandwatta, Horana, escalated, resulting in a father, who is a teacher at a leading school, being severely injured after his 27-year-old eldest son attacked him with a machete. Horana Headquarters Police state that the injured teacher has currently been hospitalized.
According to police investigations, the incident began when the father came home intoxicated and got into an argument with his 19-year-old younger son. During the argument, the father hit his younger son with the plate he was eating from, causing the 19-year-old son to sustain a head injury and collapse unconscious on the spot. Enraged by this assault on his younger brother, the 27-year-old eldest son grabbed a machete and attempted to attack his father. At that moment, a fierce struggle ensued between the two as the father tried to ward off the machete with another knife.
During this struggle, the eldest son also sustained head injuries, after which he attacked his father with the machete. The machete attack caused severe injuries to the father's head, hand, and more than six other places on his body. According to the police, the severely injured teacher received approximately 46 stitches to his head and hand.
After the incident, the injured father and both sons were hospitalized by the mother, who was at home, and local residents. Following treatment at the hospital, both sons, aged 27 and 19, were arrested by the police.
Further investigations into this incident are underway under the instructions of Horana Headquarters Police Inspector Mr. Saman Rohana. Officers including Police Sergeants Gihan (14934), Nethmi Bandara (30787), Janaka (14934), and Police Constables Sandaruwan (88126), Lahiru (13022), Saman (78834), and Woman Police Constable Ishanthi (9208) are conducting these investigations under the direction of Chief Police Inspector Ranga Dissanayake, Officer-in-Charge of the Criminal Division.
