What was revealed during the inquest into the deaths of the two female Civil Security Officers

During the inquest held regarding the incident where two female Civil Security Force officers died after being hit by a train near the South Kalutara railway station while on their way to offer a vow at a sacred place in Anuradhapura, it was concluded that their deaths were due to multiple injuries sustained from being hit by the train. This inquiry was held at the Kalutara Nagoda Teaching Hospital before Kalutara Thotamuna Inquirer into Sudden Deaths, Ms. Nirosha Nilukshini, and Specialist Judicial Medical Officer K.M.T.B.

Gunathilaka's post-mortem report and the evidence presented, this decision was reached.

The unfortunate victims of this accident are 58-year-old Vithana Gamage Renuka Damayanthi, a resident of Maha Kalupahana, Matugama, and 53-year-old Deweni Guruge Sriyani, a resident of Udawela, Agalawatta. It has been revealed that both of them were officers attached to the Serupita Civil Security Force camp.

Sithumini Jayanaeththi, the 16-year-old daughter of Sriyani, who was at the scene at the time of the incident, testified that she, her mother, and her mother's friend had arrived in Kalutara by bus in the early morning to go to Anuradhapura. She stated that they then entered the railway track from the side of the playground and were walking towards the railway station when a train unexpectedly arrived.

As soon as she saw the train approaching, she threw the two bags she was carrying onto the railway platform and immediately climbed onto the platform, and she tried to pull her mother and the other woman up, but there wasn't enough time. The daughter further stated that at that moment, although the two women tried to cling to the railway platform, they were hit by the rapidly approaching train and thrown far away.

Mr. Senarath Jayanaeththi, the husband of the deceased Sriyani, who testified at the inquest, stated that he did not join the trip as he was suffering from high blood pressure. Furthermore, Lakshika Madhushani, the daughter of the deceased Renuka Damayanthi, testified that her mother had left home in the early morning to go to Anuradhapura, and after dropping her off at the Matugama bus stop, she received news of this unfortunate accident in the morning.
