Two children caught in a strong current and missing - A foreigner swept away by the waves was rescued in Mirissa

Two 15-year-old boys have gone missing in two separate drowning incidents in the Weligama and Payagala areas, while police life-saving officers have successfully rescued an Australian tourist caught in a rip current at Mirissa beach.

According to the police, a 15-year-old boy residing in the Denipitiya area of Weligama went missing on September 19 while fishing with two other children in a tributary of the Polwathumodara River near the Dambokka Nugaduwa Bridge.

Additionally, on the evening of September 19, another 15-year-old boy was swept away by a rip current while bathing in the sea with a group of friends in the Kuda Payagala area.

Police, Navy, and local residents are jointly engaged in search operations for the two missing boys.

Furthermore, a 30-year-old Australian national who was caught in a strong rip current while bathing in the Mirissa sea on September 19 was rescued by officers of the Mirissa Police Life Saving Unit.

The police further stated that first aid was administered to the tourist who was safely brought ashore.

This life-saving operation was successfully carried out by a team of officers including Sub-Inspector Mr. Mendis and Police Constables Mayura, Adhikari, Kumarasinghe, and Hasanka.
