The body of the naval officer who went missing from the Dora attack craft was found after 20 days.

The body of the second-in-command officer, who went missing after the Sri Lanka Navy's P-4447 Dora attack craft met with an accident in the sea near Moratuwa, Angulana beach, was found after 20 days and brought to his home in Boralesgamuwa, Werahara last night (September 05).

The person who tragically lost his life in this manner is 26-year-old Lieutenant Udayapriya, a resident of Werahara. Currently, many family relatives, friends, and Navy officers have arrived at the house to pay their last respects to the body.

On August 15th, a group of twelve naval personnel were returning to Colombo after completing their patrol, when this accident occurred in the sea, approximately 3 km off the Angulana coastline. Upon learning of the incident, Angulana Police, the Navy, and the Air Force immediately launched a joint rescue operation, and 11 naval personnel who were floating on the water wearing life jackets were safely rescued and hospitalized. Air Force MI-17 and Bell 412 helicopters were also deployed for these observation and rescue operations.

Although the Navy attempted to tow the damaged craft to Colombo Port, the police state that its vacuum system malfunctioned near the Wellawatte area, causing the craft to sink approximately 75 feet to the seabed. Subsequently, during a special search operation conducted by Navy divers inside the sunken craft on the seabed, the body of the missing lieutenant was found, the Port Police further confirmed.
