A couple was injured in a shooting that occurred early this morning at the Palm Court apartment complex located on 6th Lane, Kollupitiya, and the police have succeeded in arresting the suspect involved in the incident along with several firearms. A 12-bore firearm used for the shooting, two live rounds for it, and two air rifles have been taken into police custody from the 51-year-old unmarried suspect, who is the son of a former Senior Superintendent of Police.

The couple injured in the shooting are residents of the Kirulapana area, and they were immediately admitted to the Colombo National Hospital for treatment after the incident. Police investigations have revealed that a close relationship that had existed for some time between the injured woman and the suspect was the root cause of this incident.

Information has also been revealed that the injured woman had brought another young woman to the suspect's house the night before last. Commenting to the media regarding the incident, Police Media Spokesman and Assistant Superintendent of Police, Attorney-at-Law Udaya Kumara Wuttler stated that a comprehensive investigation is underway into the background that led to the incident.

For further investigations conducted by Kollupitiya Police, CCTV footage installed in the relevant apartment complex and its surrounding areas is also being examined.
