If I were Charles, I would not accept Harry-Meghan back into the palace - Trump

US President Donald Trump has expressed his views on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's return to the United Kingdom after living in the United States for six years. Speaking at a press conference in the Oval Office of the White House, the 80-year-old president stated that he was happy about their decision, but that he had never been a fan of theirs.

He recalled that he had a very good relationship with Queen Elizabeth II, and that he also has a similar good relationship with King Charles III, who toured the United States with Queen Camilla last April.

Trump, who severely criticized the behavior of 45-year-old Meghan Markle, called her someone who deeply disrespected Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles. He stated that he did not approve of her conduct and emphasized that if he were a member of the royal family, he would never take them back.

This is not the first time such an exchange of views has occurred between Trump and the Duchess of Sussex. After Meghan called Trump a divisive and misogynistic person before marrying Prince Harry in 2016, Trump, in an interview with 'The Sun' newspaper in 2019, referred to her as "nasty." Also, when news spread in 2025 about the potential deportation of 41-year-old Prince Harry, Trump stated that he should be left alone as he was already facing many problems because of his wife. Furthermore, after Prince Harry's statement in April 2025 in Kyiv that America should provide strong leadership to end the war in Ukraine, Trump sarcastically extended his best wishes to him and his wife.

On August 26, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to the United Kingdom with their two children, five-year-old Lilibet and seven-year-old Archie, with the intention of residing there for some time. In the new academic term starting this September, the two children are expected to be enrolled in an elite private school that charges over €30,000 per year. They will not be residing in an official royal residence, and British media reports, including the 'Daily Mail', indicate that they are expected to live in a private home in an upscale area like the Cotswolds, west of London, frequented by Silicon Valley tech moguls and Hollywood stars.

This return, six years after stepping down from their senior royal family positions and moving to California, does not signify any change in their previous decisions. That is, they will not rejoin the royal public representations and official duties they voluntarily relinquished.

Although news spread that Meghan was returning to acting for the third season of Guy Ritchie's 'The Gentlemen' TV series as the reason for their return, the lead actor, Theo James, completely denied those rumors. He further stated that such rumors have no basis and that, although she might be suitable for those roles as she belongs to the royal family, it is practically impossible for her to join the cast.
