Several of the spears Ramesh brought were broken when he arrived on the island after his victories.

Sri Lanka's leading athlete Rumesh Tharanga, who won first place in the javelin throw event at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship held in Budapest, Hungary, arrived in the island this morning (15) via Katunayake Airport.

Rumesh Tharanga, currently ranked number 01 in the world athletics rankings, managed to secure this victory by recording a distance of 91.09 meters in the final round of the tournament. A large crowd had gathered at the airport premises to welcome the victorious champion. However, during this arrival, an unfortunate incident was also reported where Rumesh Tharanga's specialized competitive javelins were damaged while he was traveling to the island by air.

Due to an oversight on the flight from Hungary, several javelins he used were broken, and an official complaint has been lodged with the relevant airline regarding this. Speaking to the media after exiting the airport, Rumesh Tharanga stated that he felt an indescribable joy at being able to bring two trophies for his homeland. However, he also said that due to the javelins he used to throw beyond the 90-meter mark being broken during the flight, he was unable to leave the airport with the same full happiness as usual.

The champion athlete further stated that although it might have been an oversight by the airline, he would not make a big issue out of it and would move forward for future aspirations. Such specialized javelins used by elite-level athletes for competitions are high-tech equipment, and damage to them can directly impact an athlete's future training activities as well as their competitive readiness.
