One person injured in a shooting in Rathgama, Panwila area.

Today (28) afternoon, a group of unknown gunmen opened fire targeting a person traveling on a motorcycle in the Rathgama, Panwila area of the Galle District.

As a result of this shooting, the person sustained serious injuries to one of his legs and was immediately admitted to the Galle National Hospital. Hospital sources state that the injured person is currently receiving further treatment there.

Investigating officers have already revealed that a T-56 type automatic firearm was used for the attack, and the perpetrators fired approximately six rounds.

Police state that preliminary investigations suspect this crime may have occurred as a result of an ongoing rivalry between two prominent underworld gangs.

To apprehend the suspects involved in the incident, three special police teams have been deployed under the leadership of Rathgama Police, initiating an extensive investigation and a special operation.
