Former Mayor Dhanasiri Amaratunga summons Shirani Basik to CCIB for questioning.

Former Mayor of Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia Municipal Council, Mr. Dhanasiri Amaratunga, has been summoned to the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau to record a statement in connection with the ongoing investigations into large-scale drug trafficker Shiran Basik. Accordingly, he has been informed to appear before the bureau today (01) by 09:00 AM.




Shiran Basik, who is considered one of the five main drug traffickers importing drugs into the island, was brought to Sri Lanka on August 14th after being taken into custody by security forces in Dubai. Sources state that the former mayor has been summoned for questioning based on information revealed during interrogations conducted by the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau while Basik was held under detention orders. These investigations are being carried out under the supervision of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Ranmal Kodithuwakku, who is in charge of the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau (CCIB).

Mr. Dhanasiri Amaratunga, who served as the Mayor of Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia representing the United People's Freedom Alliance and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, also served as the Colombo District Coordinating Officer for the then Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa in 2021.
