Eight hundred and fifty thousand rupees that mistakenly came out of the ATM machine was returned to the bank.

A young businessman from Nittambuwa town has picked up Rs. 844,000 that automatically came out of a cash deposit machine at a state bank branch located in the Nittambuwa New Trade Complex and handed it over to the manager of the respective bank branch. The money was returned in such an exemplary manner by Mr. P.V. Hiran Peiris, a former secretary of the Nittambuwa New United Traders' Association and a textile businessman in the area.

Mr. Hiran Peiris stated that he encountered this incident last Friday, the 18th, around 1:00 PM, when he went to the ATM booth located within the bank premises to pay his electricity bill. As he was about to use the cash deposit machine, its cash insertion slot suddenly opened, and he saw a bundle of money containing five thousand rupee notes inside. He immediately took the bundle of money and went directly into the bank branch without even informing the security personnel.

At that time, the bank manager had gone to the upper floor for lunch, so the businessman went upstairs and explained the incident, handing over the bundle of money to the manager. About an hour later, the bank manager called the businessman and had him return to the bank, where he confirmed that there was Rs. 844,000 and appreciated his extremely rare social virtue. Furthermore, in addition to the manager who said he would work to find the rightful owner of the money and return it, two bank officials later visited his business premises and thanked him.

Commenting on this, the manager of the respective state bank branch stated that the owner of the money was found after examining the CCTV camera footage. It was revealed that although the machine can only account for Rs. 200,000 at a time, the customer, who did not have a proper understanding of this, had inserted Rs. 844,000 into the machine and left. The businessman found the money at the exact moment when the money, after being stuck in the machine, caused the window to open automatically and the five thousand rupee notes came out.
