Chaminda Vaas, the new fast bowling coach of the Delhi Capitals

Former Sri Lankan super fast bowler Chaminda Vaas is set to be appointed as the fast bowling coach of the Delhi Capitals team ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament. Although the Delhi Capitals management has not yet officially announced this, sports reports confirm that Vaas is already participating in the team's training camp and selection matches currently being held in New Delhi.

Chaminda Vaas, who is 51 years old, is a player with extensive experience in international cricket as well as in coaching.

Having taken 355 wickets in 111 Test matches and 400 wickets in 322 One Day Internationals for the Sri Lankan team, he is among the most successful bowlers at the international level. Vaas, a key pillar of the Sri Lankan team that won the 1996 World Cup, represented international cricket for over a decade. After retiring from the sport, Vaas served as a coach for the Sri Lankan national team as well as various local and foreign league teams. It is believed that his experience will form a strong foundation for strengthening the Delhi Capitals' fast bowling unit. Meanwhile, former Indian veteran spinner Amit Mishra, who remains among the highest wicket-takers throughout the Indian Premier League tournament, has also joined this training camp as the spin bowling coach.

His extensive experience with the tournament will be a significant asset to the Capitals' bowling attack. A change is also expected in the head coach position of the Delhi Capitals team, with former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly set to take over from Hemang Badani. Furthermore, it has been revealed that former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh will join as assistant coach. After failing to qualify for the playoffs in the 2025 IPL tournament, the Delhi Capitals team has undertaken several extensive reforms in its coaching staff. With the guidance of this new coaching staff, the Delhi team is currently preparing to present a more competitive team for the 2027 tournament.
