Boyfriend commits suicide after killing girlfriend by slitting her throat and gouging out her eyes.

The body of the boyfriend who brutally murdered a young woman in Wattala, Palliyawatta area and fled, was found on the 4th inst. within the Athurugiriya police division. It is suspected, based on current investigations, that the suspect, who had fled after this murder which occurred on the morning of the 3rd inst., died by suicide.

The victim of this murder is 18-year-old Kanakasabai Meega, who had arrived a few days prior to stay at her parents' house located on Tan Lanka Road, Palliyawatta. She had been in a romantic relationship with her uncle's son for about five years, and they had been living together for over a year without being legally married. However, it has been revealed that due to continuous suspicion held by the suspect boyfriend towards her, an argument ensued, during which he took her to the bathroom while at home, slit her throat with a knife, gouged out her eyes, and thus murdered her.

The suspect whose body was found is 25-year-old Varadaraja Chandradevan, a permanent resident of St. Margaret's Estate, Udupussellawa. Investigations have also revealed that he is a person against whom a case is currently being heard in court, related to the stabbing and murder of an individual in the Avissawella area several years ago.

The preliminary magisterial inquiry at the scene of the incident was conducted by Wattala Additional Magistrate Mr. Meril Botheju, and the post-mortem examination was carried out by the relevant officials. Under the instructions of Wattala Police Station OIC Chief Inspector Prasanna Jayalath, a team of officers including OIC of the Wattala Criminal Investigation Division, Inspector Rohana Nandasiri, are conducting further investigations.
