arpico-super-fined-for-selling-expired-blue-gin

Arpico Super supermarkets located in Homagama and Kottawa areas have been ordered to pay a total fine of Rs. 125,000 for displaying expired beverages for sale. This decision was made in relation to cases filed by the Consumer Affairs Authority in the Homagama Magistrate's Court against the violation of consumer protection laws and regulations.

Of this, the Kottawa Arpico Supermarket was fined Rs. 75,000 for displaying expired 200ml blue butterfly pea drink bottles for sale. Additionally, the Arpico Super Centre located on Avissawella Road, Homagama, was fined Rs. 50,000 for the charge of displaying expired one-liter soft drink packs.

When these cases were called before the Homagama Magistrate's Court on September 10, the defendant company pleaded guilty to the relevant charges, and subsequently, the Magistrate imposed these fines.

The Consumer Affairs Authority specifically urges consumers to carefully check all product information, including the expiry date, even when purchasing items from supermarket chains.
