Minister of Energy, Anura Karunatilake, states that no steps will be taken to revise electricity tariffs and increase prices for the upcoming quarter. Making a special statement during today's (11) parliamentary session, the Minister pointed out that the Ministry of Energy does not expect to make any request to increase electricity bills in the coming quarter.

The Minister explained that due to the heavy rainfall received across the island during the past period, it was possible to control the overall cost of electricity generation to some extent. He also mentioned that since it was possible to manage costs due to receiving more rainfall than expected, there was no need to increase electricity tariffs in the upcoming period.

Furthermore, the Minister confirmed that the Ministry of Energy has already taken all necessary formal steps to ensure an uninterrupted power supply within the country during the first 3 months of the upcoming new year.
