81 kg of drugs seized from the Jaffna coast

The Sri Lanka Navy confirms that the total weight of the drug consignment seized during a special naval operation conducted this morning (27) in the Madagal Kusumanthurai area of Jaffna on the northern coast is 81 kilograms.

The seized drugs were examined with the expert assistance of the Jaffna Police Anti-Narcotics Bureau, and it was confirmed that the consignment contained 45.5 kilograms of 'Ice' (crystal methamphetamine) and 35.7 kilograms of heroin.

During the operations, security forces succeeded in apprehending one suspect in connection with this drug trafficking operation, as well as a vessel suspected of being used to transport the consignment.

Further investigations into the incident are being carried out by the relevant authorities, and the Navy expects to release additional information regarding this in the future.
